srsly?

So I just applied at Kohl's (a store that I'm actually very fond of) and their silly computer just flat out rejected me for "not fitting the criteria" that they're looking for.
How frustrating is that. Getting rejected before a human being even looks at your application. An excellent self-esteem killer.

In other news, I'm getting rejected from grad schools left and right. Yet another thing that makes me want to run into oncoming traffic.

I know things will look up. But right now this second, all my rage is in my jaw and it makes me grind my teeth.

Long Time, Big Moment

I've got a lot to write about, albeit some of it more interesting than other parts of it.

More importantly, I had a big moment the other day.

And without further ado-here it is.

If I don't get into a grad school which requires me to move out of state and therefore, out of my house in MI and quit my job at the coffee shop, I'm quitting. I know it's a long way away, but I will not work past December 31.
It's a small concession, a potentially lame revelation-but I think, especially as of late, it's possibly the best decision I've made in a while.

So there's that. I think it's pretty brilliant. Even if it scares me a little.

Shopping WIN

I don't go shopping very often. I don't like going into stores and 1) not finding something I like, and 2) not being able to afford a lot.

BUT.

There is a Buffalo Exchange down the street, and I walk past it often while running errands. For the past few weeks, there has been an awesome summer dress in the window—teal and dark purple abstract pattern, asymmetrical hem, halter tie top...AKA awesome.

The thing about Buffalo Exchange is that it's a resale shop. They buy used clothing from people in exchange for cash or store credit, and they're kinda picky about what they accept. Think of it as a high-end Salvation Army or Goodwill, if you will. There is likely only one of any item.

Therefore, I felt a slight sense of panic/excitement when the dress was no longer in the window today. I previously felt too awkward about asking them to take it off the window mannequin for me, so I may have just lost my chance for the dress...however, now it was off the mannequin, and maybe I could still capture it!

I dashed inside and went right to the dress rack...and there was my beautiful teal/purple asymmetrical hemline halter-tie dress! Panic moment again: it's a size extra-small, and I'm more of a small/medium. Happy moment: IT IS STILL THERE, and I can at least try it on.

I wrestled the zipper up my back and debated—it has a low back, so although it was a struggle to close it over my ribcage, it still was doable. The top could be tied and adjusted to make it fit better. AND THE SKIRT PORTION WAS AWESOME.

As I exited the fitting rooms, the attendant asked me, "How'd it work out for you?"
"YES! For the win!" I answered.

The dress still has its original tags attached. I have purchased a $158 dress for $16.50.

And I now own my window dress, which the store only had one of, which magically fit me, that I have wanted for weeks.

Things I Want Right Now

  • A car—specifically a Ford Focus with automatic transmission, power locks & windows, and 4 doors...that's all.
  • My own bedroom (no more sharing a small space)
  • Bunnies!

In short...I need money.

100th Post: A Retrospective

HEY GUYS, WE ACTUALLY MADE IT TO 100 POSTS! And it only took us...over a year. Whatever.

Now let's get all nostalgic and look at our favorite highlights:

Tool Academy obsession
So trashy...but so, so good.

Emily goes on TV shows
Ridiculous. Within about two months of moving to L.A., I was on Ellen DeGeneres AND The Price Is Right. Still to come: Mythbusters! (Yeah, I forgot to blog about that one. I'll make a big deal about it when my episode airs.)

Alexa visits L.A.
YEAH SHE DID! The duo reunited for one awesome week.

Black AmEx competition
Alexa got the first one...but I got more!

Alexa goes to Paris
Champagne on top of the Eiffel Tower. WIN.

Here's to even more ridiculousness to come!

YOUR SOUL
IT WAS CRUSHED ONCE BEFORE THERE

Me: BABY NEEDS A PAYCHECK

Emily: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHhh

Me: So Baby will go back there, until Patrick Swayze comes to say "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!"
...wait. Fuck.

Emily: LOL

Me: Regardless, I needs dollarz.
So I'll report in tomorrow about it. I'll even blog.

And on that note....bed.

Emily's Olympic highlights

So the Olympics came and went, and as much as Alexa and I LOVE THE GAMES...we hardly blogged about it. That's a FAIL on our part.

I now give you my Olympic Highlights:

The Opening Ceremony whales
I cannot find photos/video of it online, but oh man. Video whales on the floor, spouting up some mist. Awesome.

Canada's Mittens
They are freaking cute and made me happy.

Apolo Anton Ohno
Winning medals and hearts. (Okay, due to my extreme desire to WIN THE OLYMPICS, any athlete who can bring home several medals has basically won my heart.) I may have missed a few speedskating events' coverage, but I always watched Apolo's races. I also loved his announcements of his personal medal count after each win.

Moguls
Bump, bump, bump, launch...spin!...land, bump, bump. AWESOME. I never noticed moguls before, but holy cow this event rules. Plus, just look at that outfit: looks like comfy pajamas.

Charlie White & Meryl Davis
Silver medal in ice dancing! Their "Phantom of the Opera" costumes were amazing! Also, Alexa knows Charlie! GO TEAM!

Shaun White wins again
In the words of Alexa, "GOD Shaun White is just SO much better than everyone else." Seriously. He consistently gets more air and turns out better tricks than anyone. His "victory lap" was scored even higher than his first run. I feel like the event itself was just a formality—Shaun White was going to win, period. And I have to comment on team outfits again: USA rocking the plaid shirt and jeans? Of course we did.

Scott Hamilton's figure skating commentary
"Triple axelllllll....YEEESSS!" "Whooooa...ooohhh..." This is a man who loves the sport, and I love his commentary.

Lysacek pwns Plushenko
LOL RUSSIA. We beat you even without a quad!

Snowboard Cross
I just love how they jump and go whoosh.

Bode Miller wins gold
Hey, he finally got one! Way to turn around that "go big or go home" attitude from Torino. (Notice the trend: I love people who win medals.)

Closing Ceremony hijinks
It looked like a Thanksgiving parade threw up in Canada. Inflatable animals and mounties and singing maple leaves...I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. It was completely unexpected during what I thought was supposed to be a classy affair. WHATEVER, it was amazing.

WE WON THE OLYMPICS
Okay Canada, you got more golds than anyone...but we won more overall medals than anyone, and we all know that's what I really care about during the Games! 9 Gold, 15 Silver, 13 Bronze...37 total medals...USA! USA! USA!

Alexa: Okay. AWFUL
Alexa: I have to shower, but when you find out who did this, TELL ME

Alexa: That shower cleansed that video from my soul
