Let us begin with saying, I'm done with this photo shit. Maybe I'll do one at the start of every month.
I also should apologize for calling out Emily on not photo-ing. Apparently we had a bit of a mis-communication and she is photo-ing on a different blog, and not photos of herself.
Who knew? (Not me. Not then, anyway)
Let's fast forward about a month, shall we?
Grad school is so deliciously nerdy. I spend my time thinking about different languages, vowel systems, language acquisitions, motivating connections between polysemous words, and it's so delicious. Sometimes it gives me a headache. But then I get excited that I liked something enough and thought about it enough to make my head hurt. (I know, right?)
In more pressing news, a SNOWPOCOLYPSE is slated to hit the MI area sometime tomorrow. I'm sort of hoping it'll really dump on us, and it'll do it in a timely fashion. Despite my love of school, everyone likes a snow day.
Frankly-between you and me-I don't think I have that kind of luck. But a girl can dream, right?
Michigan in the midst of a SNOWPOCOLYPSE is hilarious. It's always as if we've never seen snow before in our little Northern lives. I just hope that I don't actually have to venture out in it. The shenanigans that people pull give me a headache and raises my blood pressure.
I don't appreciate it.
I'll report in after the SNOWPOCOLYPSE hits. I've got a shovel. And a snowblower. And a full fridge. I'm not worried.
Bringing the hilarity since September 10, 2008. Or since we lived together in 2007-2008. Or since we met in 2005. WHATEV. WE BRING THE HILARITY.

Life's Better With Company
I'm still very unemployed, and both scared and exhilarated at the same time.
Today my dad drove my mom to the airport, which was very nice. While I could have done it myself, it was snowing (not wicked hard, but reasonably decent) and it was nice to just go along for the ride, as compared to doing all the work myself.
The other day my parents and I saw Up In The Air. There is this scene with George Clooney (sigh) and Anna Kendrick (the girl who plays Jessica in Twilight). They are on an airplane together, and she is working on her laptop.
I admit, she is typing fairly furiously. In all honesty, she is banging the crap out of her poor laptop. George asks (basically) "What did your computer ever do to you?" and then it hit me.
This is how my mom thinks I type. Bang. Bang. Bang.
My laptop didn't do anything to me. I just "type with purpose" (as Anna says to George). And I type quickly.
Sidenote-See Up In The Air. It's a timely film for this particular moment. Especially living in Detroit, and now that I've joined the ranks of our unemployed. Some of the film is funny, some of it really isn't, and it ends on a bittersweet note.
As George says in the film, "Life's better with company". It's a good note to end on.

Musings on Totes Bril pop music
So to prevent this from becoming solely "The Emily Show", I have returned. With some pretty deep stuff. While watching The Devil Wears Prada.
While switching cds in my car, it occurred to me-What is it that makes a perfect pop song? I'm not talking about certain masterpieces like "Take On Me" or "99 Luft Balloons" or things of that nature. I also am excluding Prince's entire catalog, basically because I said so.
So back to the question at hand-what makes a brilliant pop song? And what are some of my favourites?
Having grown up in the 90's, I too, have come out the other side a boyband survivor. During those adolescent days I sat around listening to the geniusness of it all and sighing, wishing that some dreamboat like AJ McClean would come to my inevitable rescue from like...ninjas. (I didn't know the power of the ninja when I was 12-I was a sheltered child)
I narrowed down my selections to two choice songs. Having been thrust into the boyband phenomenon through the sugar sweet melodies of the Backstreet Boys, I am always predisposed to love I Want It That Way. It's so catchy. It's so sweet. I have no real idea what it's about, but it graced VH1's countdown of the top songs of 1999, meaning it had to be pretty darned awesome.
On the other hand, my attachment to the post-BSB group of equally good looking young men with potentially questionable hairstyles (AKA *NSYNC), is pretty deep. I was ill with an ear infection, watching their concert on the Disney Channel when they stole my heart. I then and there picked Lance Bass as my favourite, because I thought he dressed slightly less stupid than the rest of them. I really should've seen the admission of "gay" coming. But I didn't and that's a different story.
So their catchy little ditty I Want You Back is catchy in the way I Want It That Way is. You sing, you dance, you commit totally to it when it comes on the radio in your car. One point in *NSYNC's favor is I actually do know what the song is about. Otherwise, I feel this is one of those moments in history when you go "Which goes deeper, my love of NSYNC or my love of BSB?"
These are not questions that can be answered easily, or succinctly, as proven by my charming little ramble. Regardless of the implications, I feel I have posed a question for the ages. I Want It That Way or I Want You Back? Both have catchy melodies, reasonable lyrics, notes that most everyone can hit while driving (or such) and a connection to those delightful 90's. May they live on in infamy. And my cd player.
